I’m Michael Cantu, a professional dog trainer serving Pittsford and Rochester, NY since 2009. I am also the proud founder of Luxury Acres Pet Resort.
For years, I struggled to find luxury dog boarding I could trust. Most places were overcrowded kennels with cold crates and little real care or attention – nothing I’d ever leave my own dog in.
That frustration inspired me to create Luxury Acres Pet Resort: the loving, upscale, cage-free dog boarding experience I always wished existed for my own pets.
With Luxury Acres Pet Resort, I built the exact kind of 5-star, loving, cage-free retreat I always wished existed. Now, right here between Buffalo and Rochester (just 15 minutes northwest of Brockport), I get to give every dog the vacation they deserve—and give their owners total peace of mind.

As founder of Rochester NY Dogs & Service Dogs of NY LLC, Michael specializes in life-changing service dog training. He expertly prepares assistance dogs for children and adults living with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, diabetes, PTSD, seizure disorders, mobility issues, and more — helping families across Western New York gain independence and confidence every day.

Gavin’s lifelong love for animals started on his family farm in Orrington, Maine, where he grew up surrounded by dogs, cats, and livestock. That early passion led him straight to Luxury Acres, where he now works hands-on with every guest dog. Gavin excels in daily care, playgroup supervision, and assisting in our popular Board & Train programs – ensuring every pup gets expert training and plenty of affection!
Gir
Chief Canine Supervisor
Gir is our 3-year-old European Doberman and a star member of the Luxury Acres training team.
With his calm and steady nature, Gir is the perfect role model dog. He helps with training by showing commands clearly, gently encouraging shy or nervous dogs, and helping young puppies gain confidence through positive, controlled interactions. In other words, dogs and handlers learn faster when Gir is working with them!
Groot
Head Resident Supervisor
Groot, a 9-year-old domestic mix, holds the senior leadership position of Head Supervisor. He is responsible for quality assurance, workspace optimization, and staff performance monitoring. Groot conducts regular inspections from elevated vantage points, ensures operational efficiency through strategic presence, and maintains team focus with calm, authoritative oversight.
